Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 29-year-old Travis Green of Buffalo was arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on one count of Assault in the Second Degree.

On November 14, 2017, while incarcerated at the Erie County Holding Center, the defendant is accused of wrapping his bed sheet around his cell bars to prevent the gate from opening properly. When an Erie County Sheriff’s deputy was removing the sheet from the bars, the defendant allegedly punched the deputy through a small partition in the gate.

The deputy was struck in the left eye and treated at ECMC for his injury.

If convicted, Green faces a maximum of 7 years in prison.

Green is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, May 24 at 2 p.m. for a pre-trial conference. He remains remanded without bail.

Assistant District Attorney Lauren Nash of the DA’s Tactical Prosecution Unit is prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
