Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 36-year-old Ansara Walker, also known as Randy Walker, of Buffalo has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges to 8 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On September 20, 2016, Buffalo Police responded to a domestic trouble call on Butler Avenue. The complainant directed police officers to her apartment where the defendant was present. The defendant was in possession of a 9 mm Luger handgun loaded with a magazine containing 25 hollow point bullets.

The defendant, a convicted felon, told officers that he carried the handgun for protection. DNA evidence was used to prove that the defendant possessed the gun.

A jury found Walker guilty of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree following a three day trial in June 2018. The defendant was found guilty on the only count in the indictment.

DA Flynn commends the investigative work of Officer Ibrahim Abdul-Wahed, Officer Adolphus Barkor and Lt. Mitchell Thomas of the Buffalo Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Stephen C. Earnhart and Timothy J. Garvin of the DA’s Domestic Violence Bureau.
