Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 27-year-old Tyron Fish of Buffalo has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia to a determinate sentence of 13 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On September 26, 2017, the defendant went to the home of his ex-girlfriend on Millicent Avenue in the City of Buffalo after making several threatening phone calls. When the woman’s new boyfriend went outside to tell the defendant to leave, the defendant stabbed him three times in the torso with a butcher knife.

The victim miraculously survived the attack. He underwent a blood transfusion and four surgeries, spending several weeks in the intensive care unit at ECMC. Due to the severity of the stab wound to his abdomen, the victim will be at-risk for stomach-related problems for the rest of his life.

Fish, a second violent felony offender, pleaded guilty to Attempted Assault in the First Degree in April 2018.

In addition to the sentence, Judge Buscaglia signed orders of protection for the victim and the defendant’s ex-girlfriend, which remain in effect until September 2043.

DA Flynn commends the thorough investigative work of Lt. Jonathan Pietrzak, Officer Patrick McDonald, Officer Mitchell Thomas, Officer Jonathan Jackson, Officer Calvin McKnight and Officer Roman Ramirez of the Buffalo Police Department. DA Flynn also commends Dr. Jeffrey Jordan for his life-saving surgical work.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Amy B. Benedict of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau.
