Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 39-year-old Bryan Colon of Buffalo has been sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to a determinate sentence of 24 years in prison. He was sentenced as a second violent felony offender.

In 2014, the defendant pleaded guilty to six counts of Burglary in the Second Degree. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison. However, the Appellate Division vacated the plea in 2017, and the matter returned to the trial court.

In February 2018, a jury found the defendant guilty, as charged, of six counts of Burglary in the Second Degree. Colon was convicted of committing burglaries at various residences throughout Erie County. The defendant forcibly entered six homes where he stole cash, jewelry, televisions, computers and other electronics. The estimated value of all the items totaled more than $45,000.

After his conviction, the defendant requested a new attorney three times. Several post-conviction motions and a second felony offender hearing delayed his sentencing.

Prior to his burglary spree in 2012, Colon served nearly 10 years in state prison after being convicted of Robbery in the First Degree for robbing a man at gunpoint on Buffalo’s West Side.

DA Flynn commends members of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the Amherst Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Patrick B. Shanahan and John P. Gerken, Jr. of the DA’s Tactical Prosecution Unit.
