Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 48-year-old Lemont A. Hughes of Buffalo has been arraigned before Buffalo City Court Judge Andrew C. LoTempio on one count of Criminal Impersonation in the First Degree, a Class “E” felony.
It is alleged that on Saturday, March 30, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers witnessed the defendant, who was dressed in a police uniform, walking on Bailey Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The defendant was allegedly wearing a combination of police and federal agency uniforms with a vest, body camera, police badge, radio, and a gun belt that held handcuffs and a fake gun.
Hughes is schedule to return on Friday, April 5 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing.
If convicted on the charge, Hughes faces a maximum of 4 years in prison.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
