Teen Admits to Shooting Another on Buffalo's East Side

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 18-year-old Jason Chapman of Buffalo pleaded guilty before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to one count of Assault in the First Degree, a Class “B” felony, and to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class “C” felony.

The defendant admitted that on August 15, 2018, at approximately 10:30 p.m., he shot a 19-year-old man on East Utica Street and Jefferson Avenue in the City of Buffalo.

The victim underwent surgery and remained hospitalized at ECMC for about four weeks. He has since recovered from his injuries.

Chapman faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. He remains remanded without bail.

DA Flynn commends Officers Michael Lehner and Anthony D’Agostino of the Buffalo Police Department for theirwork in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John P. Gerken, Jr. of the DA’s Tactical Prosecution Unit and Assistant District Attorney Erin E. Hart of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau.
