Arrest in Grimes Street Homicide

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 54-year-old Ruben Marchese of Buffalo has been arraigned before Judge Kevin J. Keane on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class “A-1” felony. The defendant was arraigned on Saturday, March 18, 2019 in Buffalo City Court.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at approximately 5 p.m., the defendant shot 44-year-old Carlos Perez-Torres on Grimes Street in the City of Buffalo. The victim died at the scene.

Marchese is scheduled to return on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. He was remanded without bail.

If convicted on the charge, he faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends Detective Sgt. William Cooley and Detective Patti Wrest of the Buffalo Police Homicide Squad for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ashley M. Morgan of the DA’s Homicide Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
