Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 56-year-old Muhummad Alazim of Buffalo has been sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to a determinate sentence of 25 years in prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision. The defendant was sentenced today as a second violent felony offender, and he will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.

The defendant engaged in sexual intercourse with a female victim by forcible compulsion at a location in the City of Buffalo on November 17, 2018. During the rape, he caused serious physical injuries to the victim by beating her. 

Alazim pleaded guilty to one count of Rape in the First Degree and one count of Assault in the First Degree, both Class “B” violent felonies, on July 11, 2019.

DA Flynn commends Ret. Det. Joseph Ahmed, Detectives Julie Ledwin and Molly Sanford of the Buffalo Police Department, and initial first responders from B District for their work in the investigation. DA Flynn also commends the medical staff at ECMC, specifically Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Mary Burt.   

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bethany A. Solek of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau.
