Teen Arrested for Shooting at Off-Duty Buffalo Police Lieutenant

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 19-year-old Keinn A. Moore of Buffalo was arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan, acting as a Buffalo City Court Judge, on Friday, April 10, 2020 on the following charges: 

·     Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, a Class “B” violent felony
·     Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a Class “C” violent felony
·     Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class “C” violent felony
·     Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a Class “D” felony
·     Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, a Class “D” felony
·     Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class “D” felony
·     Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, a Class “E” felony
·     Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the Third Degree, a Class “A” misdemeanor

It is alleged that on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the defendant stole a SUV from an address on Esser Avenue in the City of Buffalo.  

It is further alleged that at approximately 6:30 p.m., the defendant fired a gunshot toward an off-duty member of the Buffalo Police Department in the vicinity of Huntley Road and Burke Drive. The lieutenant, who was driving a vehicle at the time of the incident, was not injured. 

The defendant fled in the stolen vehicle, but was located a short time later near Kensington Avenue and Century Road. Officers allegedly found Moore in possession of an illegal handgun and a counterfeit $100 bill. 

Moore is scheduled to return on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. He was remanded without bail.

If convicted on all charges, Moore faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.   

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation. 

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Matthew S. Szalkowski of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
