Tonawanda, NY – Erie County Legislator Lisa M. Chimera (D-3rd District) is proud to announce that a portion of Erie County’s federal funding, in the amount of $150,000, will be awarded to the Kenmore Volunteer Fire Department. The funds were made available through the American Rescue Plan of 2021. Legislator Chimera’s advocacy for this project was based on the need for essential renovations and improvements to the facility located on Nash Road in the Village of Kenmore. The site on the southern end of the Village has housed the Department since 1929.
Legislator Chimera added, “Our volunteer firefighters are some of the bravest and most deserving individuals I’ve ever known. So many are indebted to them for the holidays they’ve missed or the celebration they’ve left early just to answer the calls of others in distress. I know this funding is badly needed and now, they will be able to continue to safely serve for years to come. I’m grateful to County Executive Poloncarz for sharing my concern and vision in supporting the greater Kenmore community.”
The monies will be used by Chief McGregor and his force of more than thirty volunteers in their continued effort to provide heroic duties to the almost 16,000 residents of the Village, as well as to assist with emergency response in the surrounding municipalities as needed.
